St. Patrick's Day Parade in The Highlands

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by millions all over the world with more than just green beer.  It’s a day to celebrate the lads and the lassies of the world!  This year’s theme is “One United Ireland”. Pull out your best green attire and celebrate in Louisville, Kentucky.  The 2017 parade starts at 3 PM on Saturday March 11, but don’t wait till the last minute to get there.  Last year, 100,000 strong came out to support the luck of the Irish.  Candy, beads, and other goodies will be tossed out for the little ones to enjoy.  The parade route starts at East Broadway and Baxter and continues just past Mid City Mall at Windsor Place.  Don’t call it quits after the parade.  Stop by O’Shea’s Pub on Bardstown Road for some post parade entertainment.  Here five great St. Patrick’s Day Facts

  1. HOW ST. PATRICK’S DAY STARTED
The first St. Patrick’s Days started in 1903. It wasn’t until the 1960’s when bars opened up on this special day that it began to grown into what it is today.
  2. GREEN, GALORE
Not only is your shirt important, but so are your accessories. Don’t forget to grab your green sock, sunglasses, and maybe even your screen scarf!
  3. LUCKY FOOD
Did you know the luck of the Irish eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day? Turn on your crock pot, and have it ready for when you get home from the parade.
  4. CLOVER LEAFS
The Irish used the clover leaf as a symbol to remember the holy trinity (God, Son, Holy Spirit)
  5. DRINK UP
13 million pints of beer get consumed on St. Patrick’s Day alone! On a normal day, 5.5 million pints of beer are consumed.  Be safe though, and never drink and drive.
